Gujarat Govt to promote goods made by rural artisans

Ahmedabad, May 7 (KNN) Gujarat Rural Industries Marketing Corporation Limited (GRIMCO) wants to supply toolkits of different trades under the various government schemes of different government departments to develop and promote the marketing of goods made by rural artisans.
In this context, GRIMCO is planning to purchase multi stitch sewing machines, half shuttle sewing machines, hand lorries wheel sets, hand lorries kamanset, different hand tools, power tools, electrical items, MS and cast iron items, various hand operated machines.
It is also looking for suppliers of stainless steel and aluminium items, measuring equipment, PVC items, tool bags, plastic bags, etc in bulk quantities.
Established in 1979, GRIMCO is fully owned and promoted by Government of Gujarat under cottage and rural industries sector. It works towards providing employment to the artisans of cottage and village industry; and provides training to BPL artisans of the state. It also executes various schemes introduced by various departments of the government.
Significantly, it provides facilities to rural artisans for marketing their goods. As the artisans are not organised they have to depend for sale of their finished products on intermediary agents and private traders and as such they get much less return as compared to their hard work put up by them. With the taking over of the marketing work by the corporation they will comparatively get more return.
The corporation has a mission to create opportunities of employment at district level having expanded the scope of the job of the corporation in several districts of the state. It also undertakes activities to enable the artisans of the State connected with various trades to earn livelihood after providing tools under the skills of cottage village industry.
It also provides assistance to several clusters in the field of survey, training, production, tools, construction of sheds and marketing under the scheme of government for cluster development. (KNN/ES)
