Surat, Jul 29 (KNN)  With a view to retaining its tag as the best tourist destination, the Gujarat government has started preparation for the forthcoming cultural festival during the Rann Mahotsav Tour in Kutch.

Attended by more than 8000 tourists each year, the event will be held from December 15, 2013 to February 15, 2014 at the Dhordo district in Kutch.

The state government has been making considerable efforts to boost tourism.  The popular "Khushboo Gujarat Ki" campaign with Amitabh Bachchan as its brand ambassador and other international events, like Rann Utsav in Kutch and the Monsoon Festival in Saputara, have played a major role in making Gujarat a top choice for the tourists visiting India.

To begin the initial level work for the forthcoming season, the tourism corporation of Gujarat tourism seeks contractors and tent providers or firms having minimum experience for conceptualizing, designing; execution of works, management and supervision at the site, including exterior and interior furnishing, plumbing, sanitary and drainage services etc.

Last year, a tent city of 400 tents, consisting of both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned tents, was set up on the outskirts of bordering village of Dhorado in the Rann.
The Gujarat government is likely to spend approximately Rs 666 lakhs for these works.

Kutch is a fascinating district known for its colourfully-dressed people, rich handicraft traditions and natural wonders.

The celebration of Kutch is marked with various activities such as music concerts, colourfully attired dance performances, Sindhi bhajan performances, Langa Desert Music, camel race, horse race, and various other cultural competitions.  Souvenir shops selling crafts, embroideries and Jewellery are the hallmarks of the KUTCH desert festival.

Apart from that, various short trips to places of tourist interest in KUTCH are also organized.   During the winter, each year a three day festive extravaganza brimming with hospitality, vigour and traditional flavour of the area is hosted and known as the Kutch or Rann Mahotsav.

During the festival, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat arranges tours with transport, accommodations, food and guided sightseeing.

According to the Gujarat Tourism Department, a total of 254 lakh tourists visited the state in 2012-2013.

Tourist arrivals in Gujarat rose to 198 lakh in 2010-11 from 170 lakh in 2009-10. It rose to 223 lakh in 2011-12 and 254 lakh in 2012-13.  (KNN/SD)
