Haryana govt to popularize Surajkund Mela via Coffee Table Books; artisans & weavers to get boost

Chandigarh, Sept 6 (KNN) The Himachal Pradesh government is planning to make Surajkund Mela, which showcases the diversity of handicrafts, handloom works and cultural heritage of India every year, more popular through coffee table books.
The event showcases the richness of the handicrafts and cultural fabrics of India and extends opportunity to the finest crafts persons, weavers and artisans of the country to display and sell their products directly.
Surajkund Mela has gained international status. This year, about 20 countries participated in it and there were 735 work huts for the craftsmen participating in the mela.
“Haryana Tourism plans to publish Coffee Table Books on Pinjore Gardens and Surakkund International Crafts Mela,” Director General, Haryana Tourism said in a press note.
Managing Director, Haryana Tourism, Sumita Misra, said that, “The colourful and slick Coffee Table Books about the Pinjore Gardens and Surajkund International Crafts Mela will be brought out very soon. This will be an ode to the only Mughal garden outside Kashmir and to Haryana's annual spectacle that has acclaimed prominence on the international tourism calendar.”
In this context, it has invited interesting anecdotes, memories and photographs related to Pinjore Gardens and Surajkund International Crafts Mela from general public, which will be used in the Coffee Table Books. This will become the copyright and property of Haryana Tourism.
Haryana Tourism has currently got a network of 42 Tourist Complexes. Some of the initiatives undertaken by Haryana Tourism which are coming up soon are - the Light and Sound show at Tilyar Lake, Rohtak, modern state-of the art hotel at Gurgaon and Convention Centre at Hissar.
Also, many new projects are being set up under Public Private Partnership mode like Amusement Park at Tilyar Lake, Rohtak; Damdama Adventure Camp, Damdama, Gurgaon; Kaziana Wellness Resort and Spa at Mallah near Pinjore, Panchkula and Nature Camp at Surajkund. (KNN/SD)
