Gurgaon, May 9 (KNN)  To encourage export promotion activities and maintain a favourable balance of trade, the Haryana Government has instituted state export awards to manufacturer exporters in nine industrial groups and also for outstanding women entrepreneur exporter and 19 consolation prizes for micro, small and medium enterprises.

The categories for awards are – engineering auto and auto components; agro-based, food horticulture; glass, rubber and ceramics; scientific instruments and home appliances; textile, hosiery, readymade garments, leather, footwear; handloom and handicrafts; electronics, IT, ITES; pharmaceutical, drugs, bio-tech; miscellaneous; and outstanding woman exporter entrepreneur, according to an official notice from the District Industries Centre.

Last date for applications is June-16.  Large and medium, small scale and micro units exporting their products directly are eligible for the award.

Exports play a vital role in the economic growth of a country and there is a felt need to encourage export promotion activities in order to maintain a favourable balance of trade.  The Government of India has also been impressing upon the state governments to extend facilities and recognition to the exporting units, official data said.

Further, the state’s performance on the export front has been excellent in spite of lack of natural resources and the state’s distance from sea ports.  Starting with exports worth Rs 4.5 crore at the time of creation (1967-68); the state accounts for exports of more than Rs 48,000 crore today, thanks to a conducive environment, state policies and initiatives, as also entrepreneurial efforts.

The state had launched the state export awards in 1996 to acknowledge and recognise contributions of export units.

While the outstanding state export award and outstanding woman exporter award carry cash prizes worth Rs 1,00,000 each, consolation prizes will amount to Rs 21,000 each.

Only exporting manufacturing units situated in Haryana will be eligible for the awards provided their export turnover is counted towards exports from the State of Haryana by the Office of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

The Women Exporter Award will only be considered if the exporting unit is owned and managed by a women entrepreneur / proprietor with 51 per cent or higher shareholding in the partnership/private limited company.  A proprietorship exporting unit will be given preference.  (KNN/ES)
