High powered committee set up to report on decongestion of Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 10 (KNN) Taking serious view of media reports highlighting traffic congestion on the roads of Delhi, the Ministry of Urban Development has constituted a 17-member High Powered Inter Ministerial Committee to prepare in 30 days a report on decongestion of Delhi.

The Committee under the direction of Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will also take necessary measures to improve mobility in the national capital. The Minister has taken a serious view of media reports highlighting traffic congestion on the roads of Delhi for various reasons and sought corrective interventions on priority, Ministry of Urban Development said in a release today.

The Committee will take into account all the technical, financial and administrative aspects on ‘How to Decongest Delhi’ and will submit the report along with proposed action plan by the first week of November, 2014.

The High Powered Inter Ministerial Committee, to be chaired by the Secretary (Urban Development), Government of India, has Chairman, Railway Board, Secretary (Defence), Secretary (Road Transport and Highways), Secretary (Home Affairs) or their representatives as members.

Some of the other members of the Committee include - Chairman, National Highway Authority; Principle Secretary (PWD), Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi; Chairman, New Delhi Municipal Committee etc.

Managing Director, Delhi Transport Corporation and Director General, Institute of Urban Transport will be the Special Invitees. Joint Secretary (Urban Transport) and OSD (Urban Transport) will be the Conveners of the High Powered Inter Ministerial Committee on decongestion of Delhi. (KNN/SD)
