HSIIDC To Recarpet Nearly 21 Km Of Roads In Industrial Area Phases 1, 2

Chandigarh, Sept 8 (KNN) The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has awarded a Rs 16-crore tender to recarpet nearly 21 km of roads in Industrial Area Phase 1 and Phase 2, addressing long-standing pothole-related problems that have disrupted the movement of workers and goods.

The work is expected to begin by the end of September after the monsoon recedes, with the contractor given 12 months to complete the project.

Project Covers 18 Km In Phase 1

The project, approved by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, covers around 18 km of roads in Phase 1. A tender for another approximately 2-km stretch has not yet been floated as the roads remain under the defect liability period (DLP) of an earlier repair project, reported Hindustan Times.

The earlier work on the stretch was undertaken by the municipal corporation (MC) when it had jurisdiction over the roads. The fresh tender will be floated after the existing DLP ends, an HSIIDC official said.

The agency executing the new project will be responsible for maintaining the roads and rectifying defects for five years after completion.

Poor Roads Affect Industrial Operations

The industrial areas currently have hundreds of potholes, ranging from small craters to large depressions. The roads are used extensively by two-wheelers and heavy commercial vehicles, making daily commuting difficult and increasing accident risks.

Industrialists said major carpeting work had not been undertaken in the area for the past three to four years. The deteriorating road conditions have also affected the movement of goods and industrial operations.

The two phases house more than 850 small and large industrial units, with their combined annual business reportedly running into thousands of crores of rupees.

Multiple Agencies Handle Civic Infrastructure

Different government agencies are responsible for civic services in the Industrial Area. 

The MC manages sewerage, stormwater management and sanitation, while HSIIDC is responsible for internal roads. The Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA) oversees main roads and parks.

Industrialists have repeatedly raised concerns that the involvement of multiple agencies makes it difficult to resolve civic infrastructure issues quickly.
