Bhubaneswar, Nov 18 (KNN) In order to promote Odisha franchisee for the hockey league and other sports in the state, the state-owned Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) wants to form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), under the banner of Odisha Sports Promotion and Development Company (OSPDC).

“For promotion of Sports and related activities, welfare schemes for sports person in the State of Odisha, IDCO and Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) are in the process of formation of a SPV, a Section 25 Company under the banner of OSPDC,”IDCO said in a notification.

The name SPV is given to an entity which is formed for a single, well-defined and narrow purpose. An SPV can be formed for any lawful purpose. 

“One of the key activities of OSPDC is also promoting a franchise in Hockey India League,” the notification added.

In this context, OSPDC is hiring top management level professionals for positions such as Chief Executive Officer, Manager Operations, Manager Marketing, etc.

Players like Ignace Tirkey, Dillip Tirkey, Lazrus Barla and Michael Kindo belonged to Odisha. Dillip Tirkey, now a Rajya Sabha MP, was the captain of the India team between 2002 and 2006.

Presently, there are five franchisee based teams in the league. They are Delhi Waveriders, Ranchi Rhinos, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Jaypee Punjab Warriors and Dabur Mumbai Magician.

IDCO was established in the year 1981 with the specific objective of creating infrastructure facilities in the identified Industrial Estate/Areas for rapid and orderly establishment and growth of Industries, trade and commerce.

IDCO is the nodal agency of the government for providing land to large projects which cannot come up in the Industrial Estate and Areas.  It arranges to obtain/acquire land for all such projects in any location of the state. (KNN/SD)
