IIIT-Sri City launches skill development program for rural women in Andhra Pradesh
Sri City, July 22 (KNN) The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Sricity has initiated a skill development program to empower women from the rural areas with the help of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) and Sri City management.
The primary objective of this initiative is to provide women from the rural areas with all the necessary skills to get employment or start their own small ventures.
Initially, the program will be launched in eight villages close to Sri City and based on its success, more villages will later be covered under the program.
IIIT-Sricity Director G. Kannabiran, SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Jamuna Duvvuru and Registrar D.M. Mamatha discussed the modalities of the project in a meeting with Sri City Managing Director Ravindra Sannareddy on Thursday.
Sannareddy described the industrial zone as ‘Sthree City’, adding that women make more than 50 percent of the entire workforce.
“Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aims at developing the neighbourhood, with a focus on improving social infrastructure to meet the educational and health requirements of the villages around,” he said.
After the launch, an academic team visited Everton Tea plantation, where 90 percent of employees are women and learnt about their training priorities. (KNN Bureau)
