Indigenous textile products of North East region will soon get a global platform

New Delhi, Sept 29 (KNN) To help exotic indigenous textile products of North East region get a global platform, British Council and IMG reliance entered into an agreement.

Under the agreement, the British Council’s global ‘Crafting Futures’ program will be coming to India in collaboration with IMG Reliance, said Alan Gemmell, Director of the British Council in India.

He said “We want friendship and build a relationship with India and Northeast in particular by bringing art and culture, educational opportunities from our country.”

The aim of this project is to support female textile artisans in North-east India and grow their livelihoods and economic opportunities through responding to a creative brief set by Fashion Revolution.

The project named as ‘A Telegram from Tripura’ will bring UK designer Bethany Williams and Indian designer Aratrik Dev Varman of the label Tilla together to explore new fashion systems and approaches with female textile artisans in the North East Region.

The final work will be presented Lakmé Fashion Week in February next year, will showcase female textile artisans and demonstrate how design innovation can promote a fairer, more inclusive fashion industry, Gemmell said.
