Industries in Punjab warn against attempts to revive truck unions

Ludhiana, 11 Jan (KNN) The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has opposed the decision of Punjab government to restore disbanded truck unions in State.

S. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary, J.S Bhogal, publicity Secretary, Honey Sethi, Organizing Secretary and Rajat Gupta, Press Secretary CICU jointly mentioned that CICU strongly oppose and criticize the decision of Punjab Govt. to revive Truck Unions.

It will prove to be detrimental to the growth of Industry, which is already passing through a very critical phase, said CICU in a press release.

They emphasized that this decision will create burden on the industry as transport charges is already very high in the State.

But the government had claimed that this decision was taken to end the mafia of goods transporters, but in result, the union will arbitrary and impose high tariff on movement of goods.

The Punjab government should understand the situation of the industry and form committees to fix genuine rates to ensure that the interests of the trucking community as well as the trade and industry are safeguarded, said CICU.
