Jammu, Jun 17 (KNN) The Jammu based Federation of Indian Industries has written to the Finance Commission seeking Central assistance for J&K for land acquisition in the state and development of industrial infrastructure like power grid.

In a detailed presentation before the Commission, the Federation has suggested that grant be given to the State Government with specified allocation of funds by the Central Government for the development work.

Some of the suggestions given by the Federation for which it has sought funds are - acquisition of lands and its development for industrial sector; development of new industrial estates with a joint venture of state government and the private participation; development of power grids/ infrastructure to feed these industrial estates etc.

The entrepreneurs want development of inland container depot in Bari Brahmana Industrial Complex with rail link connectivity, tool room, common test labs, machine shops and other facilities as per requirements of state government.

“In addition the existing industrial estates need upgradation,” the Federation said in the letter adding that the infrastructure created in 1970s, is in dilapidated condition and needs augmentation.

The letter also suggested that funding is required for upgradation of all existing industrial estates.

The other proposals made by the industry body were - immediate upgradation of existing Jammu airport to the level of international grade and Jammu railway station as model one with the construction of new platforms.

The entrepreneurs also want metro train for connectivity between Jammu city with suburban areas and introduction of bullet train between Jammu and Delhi.
There has been long pending demand from the Jammu industrialists for speedy clearance of goods. “Full Body Truck Scanners at Lakhanpur Toll Post for speedy clearance of goods,” the letter mentioned.

With the view to boosting tourism and tourism related businesses, the Federation has also sought new tourist circuits to be developed such as Bani-Basohli-Bhadarwah-Kishtwar-PatniTop-SudhMahaDev.

The other important suggestion made by the Jammu based Federation of Industries is opening of R S Pura-Sialkot trade route.

“…Rapid industrialization of the state has the potential to absorb large numbers of youth with direct and indirect employment in the state. But due to locational disadvantages, lack of support from the State and Central Government, pre-mature withdrawal of incentives by Central and State Government and many unwarranted hurdles in the implementation of package of incentives have resulted in decline in the industrial growth and the dreams of the youths / investors’ confidence have been shattered,” Chairman of Federation of Industries, Annil Suri said in the letter.

Besides the issues disturbing the growth of industries, a few suggestions are in mind which can really sustain and help in the growth of existing units and simultaneously attract new industries for better employment avenues to local unemployed youths, he added. (KNN/SD)
