International bamboo conference to boost industrial development in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 8 (KNN) To help industrial development using bamboo as the main resources in the state, Oriental College, Imphal in association with Bamboo Forum of India and Centre for Rural Employment and Development Organisation, Manipur is organising an international bamboo conference cum workshop here from October 22 to 26.

“As bamboo is found abundant in the state, the need is felt to develop the state industrially using bamboo as the main resources. There is no emerging growth in the ‘industrial revolution’ of the state Manipur, the reasons may be many, one aspect which the majority felt is the road and transport conditions and its terrain structures of the state,” said a release.

As a part of Prime Minister’s flagship programme ‘Make in India’, the conference will help in enhancing the production scenario in the multi-faceted products of bamboo to be produced in the state. These include of bamboo mats boards, bamboo timber, bamboo panels, bamboo chip boards, bamboo laminated furniture and allied products, bamboo charcoal, bamboo fibre extraction, bamboo shoots for food of all forms, bamboo in construction and the like.

Further, NITI Ayog suggested a raise of rural wages through fast economic growth, mainly in bamboo plantation and production in agriculture sector, to creating more jobs in labour intensive manufacturing sectors to lift people out of poverty.

It is also to enhance employment and sustainable development through improving the technological and skill inputs in bamboo processing.

The conference cum workshop will act as a catalysing factor in lessening the dangers posed by climatic change, global warming, besides being a stepping stone for the betterment of the economic condition of the nation. (KNN Bureau)
