J and K intends upgradation of ITIs

Jammu, Aug 9 (KNN)  The Jammu and Kashmir Government has unveiled plans to modernise and upgrade the ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes ) in the state to make them relevant to the changing needs of the industry.
 
“Industrial Training Institute, Srinagar intends to purchase different machinery / equipment, trade hand tools, under ‘Reforms and Improvement in Vocational Training Services rendered by the State and Central Governments’ Vocational Training Improvement Project….,” said a press notification.
 
ITI Srinagar is the first ISO 9001:2008 certified ITI of Jammu and Kashmir accredited in APRIL 2012 for incorporating quality management services to provide vocational training courses in the institute.
 
Creating quality employment and equipping the youth of J&K with sufficient skills are the objectives of ITI, Srinagar.
 
In its endeavour to match the manpower requirements of the service sector and the industry and also bridge the gap between skill requirements of the market and skills of ITI pass outs, the institute has introduced 11 new job oriented and market demanding trades putting the total number of trades in ITI to 23, number of trade units to 40 and intake capacity to 850. This includes 3 trades which are exclusively meant for women and for the rest of the trades also and 30 per cent reservation in admissions is given to women.  The physically challenged, orphans, other reserved categories and the children of ex-servicemen and defence personal are also given due share in admissions as per reservation policy.         
          
Further, the infrastructure is also being upgraded in terms of equipping the labs and workshops with latest machinery, equipment and tools. In its expansion programme another campus of ITI Srinagar adjacent to the industrial estate of Zainakote spread over 50 Kanals of land is presently being developed which will function with 25 trades initially that include the hospitality sector with state of the art setup. A 50 bedded hostel for boys will also come up in the Zainakote Campus, as per official data.

 ITI Srinagar has been granted the status of “Centre of Excellence” in Automobile Sector" by Government of India with financial assistance from World Bank under the scheme of Vocational Training Improvement Project. This Centre of Excellence will work as a hub to focus on specialist vocational training across a range of new and traditional occupations and will be innovative in delivering training so that employability including self-employment of the trainees will increase.  (KNN/ES)
