Jammu local traders protest against newly opened Reliance outlet

Jammu, Oct 17 (KNN) Several trade bodies of Jammu have united to oppose against the opening of the new Reliance Retail Store at City Square (Chandnagar), near Dogra Chowk.

On Sunday, a protest was led by Arun Gupta, President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu.

The demonstration was held outside the newly inaugurated Reliance Store at City Square Mall.

Deepak Gupta-president Ware House/ Nehru Market Traders Association, presidents of Raghunath Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Purani Mandi Traders Associations, Chemists Association also took the lead in shouting slogans against the Administration.

Local traders fear that they would suffer major loss and their businesses would be impacted with the opening of this store.

Opposing the against the new Reliance store the traders said that this decision of the Government was against the interests of small traders/ shopkeepers.

They said despite assurance by the Administration to the CCI during past, the Government has given nod to the opening of this store in Jammu which will badly affect the local trade in Jammu, which has already been badly hit with the direct train service to Katra.

To discuss further course of action an emergency meeting of trade bodies of Jammu has been called today.  (KNN Bureau)
