J&K CM calls for investment in leather projects

Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNN) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has called for large scale investment in setting up prestigious projects, which will also generate ample employment opportunities for skilled human resources of the state.

The Chief Minister was addressing a recent a high-level meeting with a delegation of Council for Leather Exports (CLE), led by Chairman M Rafeeque Ahmad held in the state capital.

Referring to the huge potential of leather-based industry, Sayeed stressed upon investment in setting up prestigious units, for which skilled labour can be sourced from within the state.

He also suggested inclusion of state-based entrepreneurs in CLE’s North Zone so that they get the required exposure to understand the intricacies of the processes involved in the manufacture of finished leather products.

During the meeting, Director, Industry and Commerce, Kashmir, gave a presentation on the scenario of leather industry in the valley, with focus on quality of raw material, processes involved and future prospects.

CLE also made a detailed presentation about export-oriented leather industry, which has an annual turnover of USD 12.5 billion, with USD 6 billion coming from the domestic market. (KNN Bureau)
