J&K govt rope in Meerut based centre to revive cricket bat cluster

Srinagar, Aug 10 (KNN) The government of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has asked expert help of Meerut based processing centre for the recovery and promotion of bat industry.

Meerut district in West of Uttar Pradesh is regarded as the manufacturing hub for sports good and a team from the city visited cricket bat cluster in Sethar village at Sangam area of Anantnag district in J&K to understand the requirements for the revival.

Earlier the Union MSME Ministry had provided funds to the cluster and now they are keen to boost the cluster, as per local media reports.

Officials from the Ministry had also visited the valley to find ways for extending support to revive Kashmir’s cricket bat manufacturing and other wood-based industry.

Promotion of cricket bat industry of Kashmir and making the Kashmir willow cricket bat to become a world class product is the main of the J&K government.

Common Facility Centre, Sethar was set up at an estimated cost of Rs 4.61 crore with plant and machinery installed by PPDC, Meerut incurring an expenditure of Rs 2.46 crore.

Its aim is to facilitate seasoning of willow clefts and provide all facilities to the Cricket Bat Unit holders under one roof.  (KNN Bureau)
