J&K SICOP registers turnover of Rs 779.21 crores against the target of Rs 647.59 crore

New Delhi, May 10 (KNN) J&K Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd (SICOP) that manages 52 industrial estates in the State has achieved a turnover of Rs 779.21 crores during the financial year 2017-2018; an official spokesperson informed the media.

This was stated at a meeting of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) Department held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta at SanatGhar, Bemina.

The meeting revealed that against the target of Rs 647.59 crore, the SICOP achieved a turnover of Rs 779.21 crores during the financial year 2017-18.

Further it was informed in the meeting that around 8000 artisans are trained by the handicraft department annually in various craft, which has 332 corporative societies till date with 36,531 memberships.

Besides this, 45,492 artisans were provided with loan facility of around Rs 400 crore for their economic empowerment.

In addition, department has done an export business of handicrafts of Rs 115.12 crore in the financial year 2017-18.

Highlighting the achievements of J&K Cements, the Deputy CM was informed about the phenomenal increase in its production in comparison to last 5 years. It was revealed during the meeting that the corporations for 2017-18 has achieved Rs 114.01 crore turnovers with 850 metric tons of cement production, though the average production for the cement for the year was 800 metric ton.

Giving details about Handlooms department, it had been informed in the meeting that presently 12 clusters under union government are running in the State. Not only this, each cluster with around 200 registered weavers is provided with training on weaving, dying and designing of various forms of fabrics.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolios of Industries & Commerce and Transport Departments, took a detailed review of the functioning of the I&C department, including status of spending and the revenue generated by its allied departments and Corporations.

Further, various interventions introduced in the department to bring fiscal discipline in its allied departments in order to make them profit generating units and infrastructural development carried out by different government departments and agencies were also highlighted during the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said that all the developmental schemes should be implemented in a time-bound manner to percolate the benefits of these schemes to its intended target.

Urging for timely disposal of cases, he said that a conducive work environment needs to be created so that people will receive their due in a time-bound manner.

Emphasizing on the role of human resource in an organization, he said for the smooth functioning of any organization welfare and timely promotion of employees is necessary in order to translate better results from them and also impressed upon the officers to maintain high standards in delivering their professional duties.
