J&K traders expect govt mend broken market chain once rain stops

New Delhi, Apr 7 (KNN) With the continuous rain over the past few days in Jammu and Kashmir, the life in the state has been hit hard.

Talking to KNN, Bashir Ahmad, Acting President of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation said “The condition of the MSMEs in the state is terrible, our federation connects with all types of traders, and as of now all the stocks that they had are destroyed because of the ongoing rains”.

Relating it with the floods that the state experienced in the year 2014, Bashir stated that “Last time when the floods came, we were badly devastated and the Government promised us compensations and assistance, the previous Chief Minister failed in fulfilling those promises”.

Describing the present situation as highly alarming, Bashir added “The water has washed away all means of livelihood for the traders in Jammu and Kashmir; God knows how we are going to survive with almost no means of survival”.

Bashir however did acknowledging the work of the Government in rescue operations at the moment, he expressed that he has hopes, once the situation is under control he expects the Government would extend possible assistance to the traders to put their ends together and start to mend the badly hit and broken market chain.

According to media reports, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Division Mohammad Hanief Lone said “The water level at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar is still increasing and we hope it will decrease slowly” The water level at Sangam was recorded at 22.10 feet at around 2:00 am while it was 21.70 feet at 7:00 am on Friday morning. The water level of the tributaries like Rambiara and Lidder streams has receded substantially. (KNN/ DA)
