JKVIB khadi mela makes highest sale of Rs 24 crore in 18 days

New Delhi, Jan 7 (KNN) Rashtriya Khadi & Saras Mahotsav has recorded highest sale ever of Rs 24 crore in the 18 days fair since its commencement on December 20, 2018, said Sanjay Seth, Chairperson of Jharkhand State Khadi & Village Industries Board (JKVIB)

“More than seven lakh people visited the fair in these 18 days and the Johar Emporium of Khadi board alone managed to sell products worth Rs 40 lakh,” said Seth.

The fair had 1200 stalls of artisans and entrepreneurs from not just Jharkhand but 22 states across the country.

He said that almost 60% of sale was done through POS machines, thus promoting the idea of digital India, Seth said.

“Apart from the stalls inside the fair, a number of stalls selling food and other items were put up by hundreds of people outside the fair premises. This fair managed to provide self-employment to a number of such people, which is what the aim of Khadi board has been,” Seth said.

On the concluding day of the fair, organizers presented awards to the best stalls across eight different categories including best Khadi stall, best Saras stall, unique stall, best handicraft stall, best innovative stalls and much more.

On the occasion, eight different Khadi making committees and associations of Jharkhand were given grants worth Rs 75.79 lakh for marketing development assistance (MDA) by the board for their good work in khadi production.

Seth said, “A total amount of Rs 75.79 lakh will be distributed among the eight groups under MDA.”

JKVIB organizes ‘RASHTRIYA KHADI & SARAS MELA’ every year. The spirit behind organising this Mela is to promote the hand-made products of rural artisans and provide them a market in order to popularise their products.
