Karnataka aims to expand industrial development from Bangalore to Mysore & Belagavi

Bengaluru, June 9 (KNN) The Karnataka government in a new ‘Beyond Bengaluru ‘policy is making efforts towards a more decentralised industrial model for the state. It aims to divert more investments towards smaller urban centres.

Industries’ minister Murugesh Nirani pointed out that Mysuru and Belagavi were among the tier-2 cities in the state attracting investment. Nirani told reporters here on Tuesday that Mysuru will soon house a semiconductor park, with Rs 22,000 crore being invested in the project.

“Once completed, it will generate employment for 50,000 people. In Belagavi, the largest glass manufacturing company in India will set up shop at the Kanagala Industrial Area, The Sanjay Ghodavat Group of Industries will set up a food processing unit in Kittur, which will generate 500 jobs,” he said.

“There is a need for need for adequate infrastructure in all cities – highways, connectivity by rail, proximity to ports, airports and hotels to attract investment, “he added.

The state is currently working on developing infrastructure in the smaller cities in a phased manner.  (KNN Bureau)
