Karnataka drug manufacturers seek separate pharma policy

Bengaluru, June 22 (KNN) To boost the pharmaceutical industries in the state, Karnataka drug manufacturers have sought for a separate pharmaceutical policy for the state.
According to a media report, the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association state chairman M Rajarathinam said that though drug sector is a thrust industry along with other sectors like biotech and IT, it is the only one without a separate policy.
Since the establishment of Karnataka Pharmaceutical Policy in 2012, the pharma industry has been given 33 different concessions, he said.
The National Manufacturing Policy 2011 emphasises the necessity of formulating special programmes to consolidate strong industry base to retain the global leadership position.
Keeping these points in view, the Karnataka government recognised the necessity to formulate an exclusive policy for promotion of pharmaceutical sector in a holistic way.
The state drug policy covers major segments of pharma sector namely bulk drugs, drugs intermediate, bio-pharmaceuticals and formulations for the rapid development by providing a level playing field to all investors. (KNN Bureau)
