Karnataka Minister asks KSPCB to keep interest of MSMEs in mind while dealing with them

Bangalore, Sept 17 (KNN) In order to gain Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise's (MSMEs) confidence in the state and hassle-free registration with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Anand Singh, Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment outlined the need to evolve a new system to deal with small industry.

While inaugurating a consent mela organised by the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA), the Minister on Wednesday said, ''The PCB must keep the interests of SMEs in mind while dealing with them as they are critical to the state's economy and employment.''

He also congratulated KASSIA for taking the initiative to organise the consent mela and exhorted them to spread this to the rest of the state so that more and more industries can formally be registered under the KSPCB.

While emphasising the need to protect the environment, he stressed that enforcement must be harassment free and his ministry has a responsibility to help industry by ensuring the law abiding are not troubled. He assured KASSIA that the issues raised at the meeting would be further discussed by the board and resolved.

''The three-month drive for enlisting industries for consent would yield desired results,'' he hoped.

The minister also appealed to KASSIA to support his department to help maintain the state's zoos by making small contributions as there was need for such support.

Srinivasulu, member secretary spoke about the need to enlist more industries under consent as only a small fraction are now included leaving tens of thousands outside formal consent. He also urged KASSIA to help in this by organizing more such melas in the rest of the state.

Earlier, welcoming the Minister, K B Arasappa, president urged the government and KSPCB to ensure that SMEs are given the due importance they deserved in matters of compliance in order to promote investments.

Mallesh Gowda, Panel Chairman, Pollution Control presented a memorandum highlighting the key issues that required redress.

The meeting was attended by the office bearers, council members and members and also associations presidents and a number of consent seekers.
