Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 30 (KNN) To boost the industrial sector in the state, the Kerala government has urged centre to set up modern production units for manufacturing electric-scooter batteries and vaccine components.

During the pre-budget discussion, Kerala also requested the union government to increase the state’s share in the GST revenue from the 50:50 ratio to a 60:40 ratio to overcome the current financial crisis. 

As per reports, the state government expects major announcements and relief packages when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents the Union Budget 2023/24 on Wednesday.

It expects an announcement of sanctioning the much-touted SilverLine project and the long-pending demand to set up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kozhikode. 

Further, the state also expects to see the introduction of Vande Bharat trains in Kerala.

Meanwhile, the state also hopes that the union government grants 'point of call' status to Kannur Airport. With this, a foreign airlines can operate once it is designated as a point of call.

Kerala also hopes the union government to revise its decision to include loans taken by KIIFB in the state's overall borrowing limit.  (KNN Bureau)
