Explaining the cost of units, district panchayat president Ullas Thomas said each unit is set up at a cost of Rs 4 lakh and we will give them a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh.

With the Rs 20 lakh fund, six units can function out of the apparel park. However, only three units have turned up so far. The unit members will collect textile, stitch it and sell the products. This will help them generate an income, he added.

To encourage women to take up entrepreneurship in the district, the panchayat will be conducting an entrepreneur meet in all 14 blocks, introducing women to various entrepreneurship programmes in sectors, including food and textile.

The district panchayat recently launched an apparel park, where women groups are given assistance to start projects in textile sector. The first unit of the apparel park was opened at Alangad. Two more textile units will be launched soon.  (KNN Bureau)
