Ladakh Governor seeks IITs expertise for entrepreneurship development

Leh, May 13 (KNN) The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R K Mathur has asked IIT Kanpur, Bombay and Delhi to identify areas for the development of entrepreneurship in the union territory.

He conveyed this to the top technology institutes of India during a meeting with the delegation of faculty members from all the three institutes.

Amitabha Bandopadhyay from IIT Kanpur led the delegation as he briefed the Lt Governor about the series of workshops on enterprising Ladakh.

The Industries and Commerce Department, Ladakh organises the workshops for entrepreneurs and students of Ladakh University, colleges, ITIs and polytechnics in Leh and Kargil to assist in the development of entrepreneurship and incubation eco-system for entrepreneurs from Ladakh.

Thanking the institutes, he urged them to identify modalities that would work in Ladakh with a specific focus on certain areas, including identifying potential products and economic spaces for good turnover, providing incentives and assistance to entrepreneurs in availing the benefits of various government schemes.

He also pressed on the need for technological interventions that work in local conditions, improving infrastructure and logistics and the marketing of niche and high-value products from Ladakh.

The feedback report from the workshops submitted by the delegation highlighted the need for suitable technological interventions based on the needs of the people of the region, addressing logistics and supply channels and the need for proper testing and certification parameters etc.  (KNN Bureau)
