Ladakh LG seeks SIDBI support in upscaling pashmina wool and food processing MSMEs

Leh, April 13 (KNN) The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur has urged the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to help MSMEs in the upscaling of pashmina wool and food processing units to ensure the product is of premium quality while retaining their local essence and value.

LG Mathur and SIDBI Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), Sivasubramanian Ramann met on Wednesday at Raj Niwas to discuss about the ways to promote local entrepreneurship in the region along with special focus on particular sectors.

Ramann briefed LG Mathur about various initiatives of SIDBI as a part of the SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) with support from Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to develop and strengthen MSMEs.

He emphasised on various development initiatives SIDBI plans to implement in Ladakh to boost local entrepreneurial spirit, production of medicinal plants and herbs along with setting up solar power projects.

“SIDBI may intervene in filling up the gap of meeting vegetable demands of the people through commercial greenhouses in Ladakh, and help in increasing milk production in a focused and sustainable manner,” suggested the LG.

He also urged the financial institution to provide mentorship in sectors such handicrafts, food processing, solar etc.

Dr Satish Tripathi, Founder of Ek Kadam Aur Foundation and delegation at the meeting appealed LG Mathur to discuss the possibility of introducing its leadership and innovation-related programmes in educational institutions of Ladakh. (KNN Bureau)
