Local craftsmen indulging more in bamboo work will get empowerment

Imphal, Oct 27 (KNN) Events like bamboo conference will give empowerment to the local craftsmen to indulge more in bamboo work to take their products to the global market.
The first of its kind five-day international bamboo conference cum workshop held at Oriental College, Imphal concluded on Monday.
On the occasion, chairman of governing body of Oriental College, H Tombi said organising such big event will give empowerment to the local craftsmen to indulge more in bamboo work to reach their product in global market.
He further said that the demands of bamboo product is high and if it could reach to bigger market, the socio-economic benefits can be generated easily.
International bamboo conference was organised by Oriental College, in association with Bamboo Forum of India and Centre for Rural Employment and Development Organisation, Manipur.
Delegates from eleven countries namely Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal and Australia participated in the event.
As a part of Prime Minister’s flagship programme ‘Make in India’, the conference served in enhancing the production scenario in the multi-faceted products of bamboo to be produced in the state.
These includes bamboo mats boards, bamboo timber, bamboo panels, bamboo chip boards, bamboo laminated furniture and allied products, bamboo charcoal, bamboo fibre extraction, bamboo shoots for food of all forms, bamboo in construction and the like.(KNN Bureau)
