Ludhiana industrialists disappointed with additional power charge decision of PSPCL, appeals to roll back

Ludhiana, June 11 (KNN) Disappointed with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) decision to levy an additional power charge of Rs 2 on industrial units, Ludhiana industrialists are demanding roll back of decision.

The PSPCL introduced peak load charge (PLC) recently for use of electricity between 6pm and 10pm. PLC has been extended only to medium-supply connections, which are mostly used by industrial units.

Voicing concern over this matter, chief executive officer (CEO) of Ludhiana Effluent Treatment Society, Narinder Bhamra described the decision as “really very shocking”.

He said that on one side, industrialist are battling to manage businesses due to complexities like GST, e-way bill, and shortage of labor; but instead of supporting the industrialist in the time of distress, the government has allowed PSPCL to levy PLC on the medium supply meters, which comprises of fair share of industrial consumers.

Calling it a huge setback for the industry, Bhamra added that this will increase the bills of industrial consumers by lakhs of rupees.

Further he questioned the party commitments and said that the Congress has been claiming to be industry-friendly. If this is the case, why did it allow PSPCL to levy such charges?

The industrialist from the Ludhiana appealed the Punjab government to study the repercussions of this step taken by PSPCL and roll back the decision immediately.
