Frequent power outages hit industrial output in Madhya Pradesh

Indore, May 4 (KNN) Due to frequent interruptions in power supply owing to tripping in industrial belts, the Madhya Pradesh industrial units are facing heavy production losses, according to a report in the TOI.

As per reports, the recent unseasonal rainfall and gusty winds have damaged the lines, hitting the industrial units already under undue stress.

Pithampur Audhyogik Sangathan president Gautam Kothari said, “Shutdowns are a big pain, though the frequency has reduced in past years, infrastructure is not getting upgraded at a pace in which new industries are coming in this region. The power load should be divided and a day in a week should be fixed for installing new connections in the industrial belt to avoid frequent shutdowns.”

The major industrial belts of this region include industries of Pithampur, Indore and Dewas. These belts together consume over 70 per cent of the total electricity supplied to industrial belts.

Palada Industrial Association secretary Harish Nagar said, “Electricity department did some repair work in our area but that is not helping because tripping is happening almost daily.”

Discom managing director Amit Tomar said, “We carry regular maintenance in industrial belts because industrial feeders are our most priority feeders. We have a dedicated team of employees for industrial areas and have allocated additional budget to upgrade the infrastructure but untimely rains caused some issues at some places which we are addressing on priority.”  (KNN Bureau)
