MP Approves Higher Compensation For Farmers Under Land Acquisition Framework

Bhopal, Apr 30 (KNN) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved a significant increase in compensation for farmers whose land is acquired for development projects, in a move aimed at making the process more equitable and reducing delays in infrastructure execution.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the state secretariat, following longstanding demands from farmers and agricultural bodies.

Revised Framework and Legal Provisions 

Under the revised framework, compensation for land acquired in rural areas will now be up to four times the market value. 

The Cabinet approved provisions for re-determination under the Land Acquisition Act, 2015, and introduced a factor-based system to enhance payouts. Earlier norms provided compensation of up to double the land value.

Officials said the revised policy is intended to address concerns of landowners and ensure fair compensation, thereby reducing resistance to acquisition.

Boost to Infrastructure and Industrial Projects 

The government noted that delays in land acquisition have often slowed key infrastructure and industrial projects. With improved compensation, authorities expect greater willingness among farmers to part with land, facilitating timely project completion.

The move is expected to benefit landowners while accelerating development initiatives across the state, including roads, industrial corridors, and public infrastructure.

The decision is being viewed as a step toward balancing development priorities with farmers’ interests and addressing long-standing grievances over compensation norms.
