New factories push industrial power demand up by 13% in Madhya Pradesh

Indore, June 21 (KNN) The electricity consumption in industrial areas of Madhya Pradesh has witnessed an increase of 13 per cent on a year-on-year basis in the last three months from March to May.

This has been due to a spike in demand from industries and the setup of new factories in industrial areas.

As per the data shared by the Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company, the HT industrial users of Pithampur, Dewas, Indore and nearby areas have consumed 187 crore units of electricity, up 13 per cent from the corresponding period a year ago from March to May.

Last year during the same period 165 crore units were consumed by industries, reported TOI.

Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company managing director Amit Tomar said, “Electricity consumption in industrial belts is growing every year and this summer the demand was up by around 13 per cent. HT industrial users are rising every month and the total number of users has crossed 4,000.”

The total number of HT industrial consumers with the electricity department in this region has gone up to 4,300 users, of which more than 3,000 users are located in the vicinity of Indore, the department said.

It added that around 250 new industrial users were given HT connections in the fiscal 2023.

“New HT Industrial connections were given in March, April and May in Pithampur, Indore and other industrial areas. Apart from fresh demand, consumption by the existing units have also gone up in the industrial belts,” tomar added.

Industries of Pithampur, Indore and Dewas are the major industrial belts of this region and these areas consume over 70 per cent of the total electricity supplied to industrial belts.

Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company is expecting more than 10 per cent increase in electricity demand from industries in the ongoing financial year due to new connections and expansions by industries.  (KNN Bureau)
