The officials will check the feasibility of setting up Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) unit at the location. The tehsil is part of the Western Ghats, most of which is protected by a conservation reserve forest.

Dhairyashil Mane, the Hatkanangle MP who forwarded the proposal of MIDC in Shahuwadi, said, “A large number of youths from the tehsil have to migrate to cities for jobs as there are no local employment opportunities. To bring them back to their native place the MIDC will be set up. The industries which will be permitted here will not have ecological damage.”

Mane informed that the industries department has also approved funds of Rs 120 crore for developing basic infrastructure in the existing MIDCs of Kolhapur district.

“The other issue which is most likely to get cleared is the transfer of land from Majale village in Hatkanangle tehsil to set up a multi-modal logistics park. The land now belonging to the state government will be transferred to the union highways department. Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured to set up the logistics park if the land is provided,” he said.  (KNN Bureau)
