“We have prepared the draft. The presentation of the draft policy have been made before the chief minister and the deputy CM. It will be tabled before the cabinet for approval. Then, the policy will come into effect,” a senior official told TOI.

Due to the delay in the launch of the new policy, different stakeholders from the textile sector are becoming impatient with the state government.

“We have given suggestions. We were given the outline to make suggestions. For instance, we were asked to suggest measures to make the business financially viable, the kind of resources that can be put in to help the textile operators to expand and modernise the units. Also, the major recommendations we were asked were pertaining to the cotton growing farmers,” said Ashok Swami, state president of cooperative textile mills association.

At present, the state contributes nearly half of the textile production of the country.  (KNN Bureau)
