Maharashtra Inks MoU With Tata Power To Support State’s Clean Energy Landscape

Mumbai, Aug 9 (KNN) The Maharashtra government has signed an agreement with Tata Power on Tuesday for developing 2,800MW pumped hydro storage projects in Maharashtra.

With a total proposed investment of Rs 13,000 crore, these projects are aimed at supporting the state's clean energy landscape. The projects aim to support the state in achieving its USD 1 trillion economy goal by 2028 and generate employment for more than 6,000 people.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at Mantralaya in the presence of Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis along with principal secretary (energy) Abha Shukla and Tata Power CEO Praveer Sinha.

While a 1,800MW pumped hydro storage project will be located at Shirawata in the Pune district, another 1,000MW project will come up at Bhivpuri in the Raigad district, an official said.

"Pumped hydro storage is a reliable and efficient way to store energy. During times of excess energy, water will be pumped from a lower reservoir to a higher reservoir, and during peak demand, the stored water will power turbines, thereby generating electricity. This initiative will significantly enhance energy security by providing peaking and continuous power supply along with other renewables such as solar and wind," said Sinha.  (KNN Bureau)
