Maharashtra to launch its IT Policy soon

Mumbai, Mar 22 (KNN) Maharashtra Industries minister Uday Samant on Tuesday said that the state government will announce the new Information and Technology (IT) policy in the next 15 days.

“The state had its first IT policy in 1998. Later, the policy was revised in 2003, 2009 and 2015. At present, work on the new policy is in the last phase and we will be publishing it in the next 15 days,” he said.

The IT minister was responding to a query raised by MLA Prakash Abitkar in the state Legislative Assembly.

Samant further added that the IT policy that we have developed has been under guidance and suggestions from various experts in the country. I can assure you that Maharashtra will have one of the best IT policies in the country.

The minister added the government is also preparing an IT data centre policy, which will be presented soon.

At present, the IT sector has a strong presence in Mumbai and Pune regions and a peripheral presence in cities like Nashik and Nagpur.

In an attempt to develop the information technology (IT) and the information technology enabled services (ITES) sector outside the traditional Mumbai-Pune belt, the state government in the new policy is likely to offer incentives to companies interested in investing in the underserved regions of Maharashtra.  (KNN Bureau)
