MMRDA to set up bamboo stations at two metro corridors in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 13 (KNN) The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in meeting chaired by chief minister Eknath Shinde approved the plan to set up bamboo-based stations on two Metro corridors as a pilot project to encourage sustainable development.

Metropolitan commissioner S V R Srinivas said, “We are going to identify two stations each on Metro 4, Metro 2B or Metro 5.”

As per reports, all finishing work at the stations will be done with the environment friendly bamboo. Bamboo will be used for flooring, wall panelling, ceiling, frames for doors and windows. 

Bamboo is the newest technology in the field of engineered wood products. Apart from being easy to clean and maintain to clean and maintain, it is dimensionally stable and minimizes the weathering effect.

Since bamboo is compressed it has a higher density than most wood types, and is therefore more fire resistant.  (KNN Bureau)
