Piyush Goyal Assures Govt Support For Mumbai’s Urban Redevelopment Initiatives

Mumbai, Feb 27 (KNN) Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, presided over a key distribution ceremony for 15 self-redeveloped housing societies in North Mumbai on February 25, 2025.

During the event, Minister Goyal affirmed that the Central Government would provide comprehensive support to the Maharashtra Government's urban redevelopment and infrastructure development initiatives.

Minister Goyal conveyed the Prime Minister's commitment to providing permanent housing solutions for homeless citizens and those currently residing in temporary structures within their existing localities.

He emphasised that this housing initiative is designed to secure long-term stability for families, ensuring that children and future generations have secure homes.

Highlighting the significant infrastructure development underway in North Mumbai, Minister Goyal noted the rapid progress on a 1,000-bed hospital near Magathane metro station.

He also announced plans for an additional 1,000-bed healthcare facility in West Kandivali, which will substantially enhance medical services and accessibility throughout the region.

The Minister commended Chief Minister Fadnavis for spearheading major infrastructure projects that will transform Mumbai's transportation network.

These include the extension of the Coastal Road from Worli-Bandra to Versova and the proposed coastal connection to the new airport via the Atal Sethu.

According to Goyal, these developments will significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the metropolitan area.

In his address, Shri Goyal praised the Maharashtra Government's strategic approach to addressing critical urban challenges.

He specifically mentioned the implementation of cement-concrete roads to resolve the recurring problem of monsoon-related road deterioration.

He also acknowledged the administration's efforts to combat water pollution, noting the allocation of over Rs 26,000 crore for proper sewage treatment infrastructure before discharge into marine environments.

Minister Goyal encouraged all stakeholders to actively promote and participate in self-redevelopment projects within their communities.

He expressed confidence that such initiatives would provide new development opportunities for North Mumbai while ensuring a secure future for residents.

In his concluding remarks, the Minister characterised the event as a significant milestone toward self-reliance in urban development, reinforcing the government's commitment to making housing both accessible and sustainable for all citizens.
