Kolkata, Aug 13 (KNN) In order to get back a bag full of opportunities for the handicraft industry of the state, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee would be carrying the handicrafts bags made by the self-help groups to Singapore, during her proposed visit, to promote the sector.

Referring to the handicraft bags made by self-help groups, Banerjee yesterday said that she would promote handicrafts of the State during her proposed visit to Singapore.

Addressing a public rally at Gangarampur Stadium in Dakshin Dinajpur, she said, “I was given the bags by the District Magistrate. They are very good. You will have to make many more.” The Chief Minister said West Bengal is number one in small scale industries.

“I shall carry it to Singapore along with a local variety of Tulaipanji rice for marketing in that country,” she added.

The Chief Minister will be visiting Singapore on August-17 to bring in investment for West Bengal. This is the first official foreign visit of the Chief Minister and she will be accompanied by business persons and officials from the State.

Further, Banerjee said that the state government will launch a new scheme 'Karmashree' which will be a combination of several other schemes.  Under the scheme, she said people who work for 20 days in a project, will be given work for another 20 days in another project. (KNN/SD)
