Manipur Handloom Expo being held in Imphal

Imphal, Sept 19 (KNN) The handloom expo organised by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' CS Lt is underway at Urban Haat in Nilakuthi, imphal.

The two-week long exhibition organised under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles was inaugurated on Sunday by National Awardee (Handloom) K Medha.

The primary aim of this exhibition is to provide local artisans with a platform to display their products and help them built market linkages.

Around 60 Kiosks showcasing various handloom products from the state are on display at the ongoing expo.

Speaking on the occasion, Medha said that the indigenous products of the state are in high demand outside Manipur, but the current quantum of supply could not meet the demand. She urged all weavers in the state to produce good quality products.

“There is the need to change this status quo, she said, adding that expos serve as a platform for the talented artisans of the state to showcase and market their products and as such, we must work hard to meet the demands of the customers.

Weavers Service Centre assistant director (Weaving) M Ibohal, Imphal East District Handlooms and Textiles project manager Th Ibemcha and National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd marketing officer-in-charge Y Shantikumar were amongst those who attended the inaugural ceremony.  (KNN Bureau)
