MIA urges Punjab govt to resolve power crisis

Mohali, Jul 9 (KNN) Miffed over the three-day power restrictions imposed by PSPCL on large-scale (LS) industrial consumers for the second time, the Mohali Industries Association (MIA) on Friday urged the state government to resolve the issue.

In this regard, a delegation of the association, led by its president Yogesh Sagar, met Minister for Labour, Health and Family Welfare Balbir Singh Sidhu and submitted a memorandum to him to be forwarded to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan to resolve the power crisis.

Anurag Aggarwal, ex MIA president said that these 8-10 days of continuous power regulatory measures on Large Scale consumer industries is not sustainable.

''Due to these regulatory measures even the MS and SP Category consumer industries are on the verge of closure as they are facing raw material shortages,'' he added.

''We urge the Government to take urgent measures to mitigate the power crisis for the LS consumers otherwise they will be left with no option other than to start protesting on the streets,'' said Rajeev Gupta, General Secretary, MIA.

The MIA president also suggested some measures which the government can adopt to give some relief to industries.

The measures are as follows:
LS consumers may be allowed to use 100 KW or 10% of the SCD whichever is higher; Some regulatory measure be imposed on MS & SP consumers also like restricting use to 8-10 hrs; LS Consumers are willing to operate at night if allowed and if it helps in any way for 8-10hrs; Immediate ban on use of Air conditioners in Government and private offices and retail shops, shopping malls; Peak load shutdown should be imposed on the retail sector, shopping malls from 06.00pm to 09.00pm or they be allowed to operate up to 08.00pm only. This power can be diverted to the industries after 08.00pm
