Kolkata, Dec 27 (KNN)  In a major Cabinet reshuffle, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra has been appointed as new Industry Minster yesterday by the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee relieved Partha Chatterjee from charge of the Industries and Commerce and Industrial Reconstruction Departments and handed over the portfolios to the former director-general of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Banerjee also created a new department of Textiles and appointed Shyamapada Mukherjee who was in-charge of the Child Development Department as its Minister.

Minister of State for Small Scale Industries Swapan Debnath was promoted to the rank of Minister of State with Independent charge and assigned the Department of Animal Husbandry.

Explaining the change in the Industry portfolio, Banerjee said she wanted Chatterjee to devote more time for party activities.  (KNN Bureau)
