Mizoram has ample opportunities for Startups and MSMEs in food processing sector: Governor of Mizoram

New Delhi, Sep 13 (KNN) The availability of raw materials, changing lifestyles and appropriate policies in Mizoram have given ample scopes to Startups and MSMEs in Food Processing sector, said Kummanam Rajasekharan, Governor of Mizoram.

He was speaking at the conference on Startups and MSMEs in Food Processing organized by ASSOCHAM in conjunction with Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), NABARD and Mizoram University.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor said “food processing industry has emerged as one of the important segment in terms of its contribution to Indian economy and is one of the major employment intensive industries and serves as a vital link between the agriculture and industrial segments of the economy.

Since, Mizoram is endowed with various types of fruits, vegetables, and other agro-products, he said that there are immense opportunities present in food processing in the State.

He also mentioned that different agro based boards headquartered in Kerala have agreed to come and help the concerned people develop the sector.

Stressing on the need to make local talents familiar to different technologies and schemes of the government, KRS Sambasiva Rao, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University said that this will help budding entrepreneurs to become more aware and motivated.

He mentioned that a proposal has been submitted to the State government for creation of a technological and innovation park on a public private partnership (PPP) mode, inviting entrepreneurs from all over the country and thus generate employment.

He said that Mizoram has huge potential on foods, fruits, spices, flowers and even beverages which has good export value.

Besides, he informed the gathering that the Mizoram University will take initiative towards this and will guide local entrepreneurs also.
