MP to promote tourism through travel marts

Bhopal, Feb 26 (KNN)  In order to promote tourism in the state, the Madhya Pradesh Government will be organising a Travel Mart with the help of professional agencies.

The travel mart will market and promote Madhya Pradesh as a destination throughout the year.  It will focus on increasing domestic and inbound traffic into the state.

The three-day event will consist of B2B meetings and B2C, exhibitions, media interactions on the sidelines of the event and organizing structured discussions/meetings of the buyers and sellers with the state tourism officials.

Madhya Pradesh is known for its rich heritage.  It enjoys a global identity of having three world monuments - Bhim Baithka, Sanchi and Khajuraho.  The new areas like eco-tourism, heritage tourism and spiritual tourism have attracted tourists from India and abroad, securing a strong visibility on the world tourism map.

Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks are among the top national parks in the country, home to white tigers and other wildlife including sloth bears, deer, leopards, jackals, and birds.

The hill top fort in Gwalior – an example of Mughal architecture, Orchha with well-preserved palaces and temples, Sanchi that houses India’s oldest Buddhist relics, the holy town of Maheshwar, the abandoned city of Mandu - once a lavish home of the Mughals, Ujjain with its maze of alleyways and temples and Omkareshwar are other attractions of the state.

According to reports, Madhya Pradesh saw a record 620 per cent increase in the  number of tourists from India and abroad during the last seven years.  While the number of tourists in 2005-06 was 74,14,375, in 2012-13 it was 5,34,13,039.

As far as tourist earnings are concerned, MPSTDC's earning was Rs 12.80 crore in 2003-04, which increased to Rs 91 crore in 2012-13.   The budget for MP tourism was Rs 15 crore in 2004-05, increasing to Rs 150 crore in 2013-14. 

The Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) will soon be appointing an event manager for the Travel Mart. 

The scope of work will cover provision of plants to add a green touch to the pavilion, electrical fittings in all booths of co-exhibitors as per requirements and daily cleaning of the pavilion during the course of the exhibition.

The work will include both construction of the pavilion at site well in time, maintenance activities during the period of the event and dismantling of the pavilion after the event.
In this context, the corporation has inviting bids from event management agencies to be service provider.   (KNN/ST)
