MSMEs hold interactive session on promotion of Defence corridor in Salem district

New Delhi, Mar 9 (KNN) In order to support Salem district for the promotion of Defence corridor, an interactive session was held between the stakeholders which was jointly organized by the Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association (SADISSTIA), Salem Productivity Council (SPC) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in the city.

Salem Collector Rohini R Bhajibhakare after inaugurating the session said that the district administration will lend complete support of all kind to those small and tiny industries and MSMEs that start units in Salem.

Stating the Tamil Nadu Policy she said, “We have single window system to process the entrepreneur’s application and all things would be done as early as possible.”

During the interactive session, Deputy Planning officer of ministry of Defence CS Chawla said that central government had already spent major portion of Rs 2 lakh crores that were allotted to military this year for material procurement.

He further put light on the fact that maximum materials have been procured from abroad and in order to save revenue that spent on imports manufacturing units in India needs to be established to produce these products domestically.
Talking about the support for the promotion of defence corridor by the state government, Chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) Ramesh Chand Meena said,“ The defence corridor in Salem will create major opportunities for MSMEs in manufacturing various components required for the production of major machineries and equipment for the defence sector,”

Former Director General of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) K Tamilmani presented a paper on setting up the defence corridor in Salem.

Tamilmani said Salem being the hub for textile and its related business, it will be easy for the district to supply uniforms and parachute clothes for military.

At present, the country is doing business of worth 10,000 crore in purchasing of parachute cloths and uniforms; if 50% of this business is done domestically country will earn huge revenue, he added. (KNN/YV)
