MSMEs in J&K boost rural employment

Poonch, Jul 8 (KNN) Small scale industries in Jammu and Kashmir which are promoted by the central government helped in creating jobs among unemployed rural youth of the state.

Scores of unemployed youngsters in the rural sector of Poonch district are earning a living by way of industrial units established by locals under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

Under this scheme, individuals are provided bank loans to start their own businesses.

PMEGP, a credit-based subsidy programme, is administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is run by district industries centres in urban and rural areas.
According to a report by a leading news agency, an official at the district industries centre in Poonch said that people in rural areas of the district have significantly benefited by the implementation of the scheme.

He added that in the last three to four years, rural sector in the district has developed by around 80 percent as a result of the establishment of more than 100 small industrial units which are all running successful. (KNN Bureau)
