MSMEs in J&K suffering due to unscheduled power cuts: BBIA

Jammu, Aug 4 (KNN) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) are suffering badly due to unscheduled power cuts by Power Development Department (PDD), said Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) on Tuesday.

In this regard, BBIA held a meeting and raised serious concern over the failure of the power department to supply uninterrupted power to industrial units of the Bari Brahmana Industrial complex.

''At present the units located in the Bari Brahmana Industrial areas are suffering very badly due to unscheduled power cuts during the day time and two hours curtailment in the evening. It is a matter of great concern. The frequent power cuts without any prior notice to the unit holders resulting in huge financial losses both for the unit holders as well as the department,'' said BBIA.

''The matter has been brought into the knowledge of the officials concerned but every time they come up with lame excuses such as overloading of systems,'' it added.

The industry body further alleged that the power department has connected the domestic load of the adjoining areas to the industrial's dedicated receiving station which results in unscheduled power cut.

''The unscheduled power cuts have forced units to spend huge amount on the purchase of diesel to run their units on Diesel Generators (DG) set.'' BBIA said.

The body later requested Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary, PDD and Yasha Mudgal, IAS, Managing Director, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation to kindly intervene in the matter and direct Jammu Power Distribution Corporation (JPDC) to provide power to industrial units without any unscheduled power cuts.
