MSMEs in Madhya Pradesh yet to feel the ease in new taxation regime: MPSSIO

New Delhi, Aug 26 (KNN) With almost two months into the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state of Madhya Pradesh complain no relief to the ease claims under the new taxation.

Talking to KNN, Kailash Agrawal, President of M.P Small Scale Industries Organization (MPSSIO) explained the situation of the MSMEs in Madhya Pradesh post two months of the GST.

He informed that the GST was supposed to ease the taxation for the industries, but the mechanism seems to be contrary to it.

Under the GST, the enterprises are asked to file the different returns including the 3-B. While the filing is acceptable by the sector, the mechanism to file itself is harassing the MSMEs.

“The filing is to be done in a particular format, something which is totally alien to the MSMEs, if at all an enterprise is able to tackle the format, the GST portal itself doesn’t function properly, causing a delay in the filing”, he said.

Under the GST, the filing is to be done in the time period of the portal, following which the portal closes its tab. If there is some server issue on the part of the GST portal, why should the enterprise suffer because of it, Agrawal asked.

Offering suggestions, he said that if the government is not able to facilitate a unified portal, it must go for a state wise of at least a region wise portal in order to lessen the traffic and avoid the frequent server issues on the GSTN.

Responding to the data released by the tax department earlier that over 96.5 per cent of the businesses have migrated to the new taxation, Agrawal said that the numbers are just to do with the registrations. Whereas the problems of the sector has not been taken up by any particular study.

Stating confusions over the responsible authority, Agrawal said that it is still not clear as to whom are the MSMEs supposed to approach with the grievances with regard to the GST. (KNN/ DA)
