MSMEs, SHGs ramp up production to meet demand of 4.5 cr flags for Independence Day celebrations in UP

Lucknow, July 21 (KNN) Large number of MSMEs, SHGs and NGOs have been involved to manufacture 4.5 crore flags for the Independence Day celebrations in Uttar Pradesh.

The target is set by the State government and the flags will be hoisted during the Har Ghar Tiranga programme from August 13 to 15 as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

To ensure that the goal is met and that sufficient number of flags are available in time, the UP administration has invited many NGOs, self-help groups, khadi and village industries and MSMEs to achieve the target.

According to an official spokesperson, the MSME department has floated tender on the GeM portal to get about 2 crore flags ready.

About 76,547 SHGs have been set a target of manufacturing over 1.5 crore flags and 10,224 NGOs have been asked to produce over 31 lakh flags while 10,112 private sewing centres have been given an order for 81 lakh flags.

In addition, about 97,000 local manufacturing centres in UP will be producing at least 2.64 crore flags.

These flags will be made available at shops, gram panchayat offices, jan sewa kendra, anganwadi centres, petrol pumps etc and will be distributed to people.  (KNN Bureau)
