Mumbai, July 8 (KNN) With the onset of monsoon in Mumbai, conducting day to day economic activities has become a biggest challenge in the state. Heavy rains have brought the city to a standstill.

From small shopkeepers to large industries, the heavy rains have had huge economic impact on the city as production process has come down drastically. Not only this, even transportation has come to a halt and many workers have no other option than sleeping in their work premises.

While speaking to KNN India, President of Bombay Small Scale Industry Association (BSSIA) Bankim D Mistry said that in monsoon, the activities get slowed down, workers face problems due to which they come late for work. Paints do not dry quickly, fabrications get rusted and packing needs to be kept dry, raw materials needs to be stocked beforehand.

"Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Sector has been managing this since many years. Government and administration are of no help. Roads are full of muck, gutters are overflowing, bus and train service gets irregular, but we have been living with it and surviving too," he said.

Also, digital payment is preferable, he added.

While speaking to KNN India, Past President of Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME), Dinesh Tripathi said, "Monsoon is the biggest hurdle in Mumbai for economic activity. People try to work from home or try to stay late in the offices because commuting becomes big time consuming and quality productive time goes in that."

Also, when asked about transportation, he said it severely affects mainly public transport, rain is heavy during the monsoon period there is high tide which spoils roads and due to this huge traffic jams are being faced, he added.
