Nagaland's Shelouphe village selected under SAGY scheme

New Delhi, Nov 24 (KNN) Nagaland’s Lok Sabha member, Neiphiu Rio has adopted Shelouphe village in Dimapur district under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), rural development and cleanliness programme, according to a media report.

Addressing a function in the village recently, the former chief minister assured he would hone the skills of villagers to start small scale industries and self help groups (SHGs). He also said he would provide them with handloom machineries for progress to the village, the report said.

Noting that Sheluophe village with only 411 households has more forest land than paddy fields to generate economy, Rio encouraged the villagers to make proper utilization of loans sanctioned from any bank. He also urged the villagers to cooperate with district administration and the government in implementing schemes.

Besides, infrastructure development, the centre initiated SAGY has an aim of instilling certain values in the villages and the people so that they get transformed into models for others.

On the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi and General Manager of SBI, David Kire, assured their full cooperation for the development of Sheluophe village.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled SAGY on October 11 asking MPs to coordinate convergence of existing rural development schemes in the village using existing schemes’ funds and their MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLAD). (KNN Bureau)
